Director of Drug Discovery

Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Drug Discovery with a focus on natural products to join our startup. In this role, you will lead the drug discovery efforts, utilizing your knowledge and expertise in natural products to identify and develop novel therapeutic agents. You will be responsible for building, managing, and leading a team of scientists and collaborating with external partners to deliver innovative drug candidates that address unmet medical needs.
Responsibilities
- Optimize the strategic value of our unique and proprietary library of gut microbe-derived metabolites as drug candidates.
- Develop and execute the drug discovery strategy for natural products, including target identification and validation, hit identification and optimization, and preclinical candidate selection.
- Build, manage, and lead a team of scientists, providing scientific direction and mentoring to achieve project goals and milestones.
- Interface with other specialists in medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, and translational medicine to ensure the successful delivery of drug candidates.
- Utilize your expertise in natural products to identify and evaluate new opportunities for drug discovery and development.
- Develop and maintain external collaborations with academic and industry partners to stay abreast of emerging technologies and scientific developments in natural product drug discovery.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards.
- Contribute to the overall scientific strategy and direction of the company.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in pharmacology, natural products chemistry, or a related field with a minimum of 10 years of drug discovery experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry.
- Strong expertise in natural products drug discovery and a proven track record of delivering preclinical candidates.
- Excellent leadership and managerial skills, with experience managing and leading a team of scientists.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with other functional teams and external partners.
- Knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards for drug discovery and development.
- Ability to think strategically and contribute to the overall scientific direction of the company.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
